Halfin
(1948 - 1972)
He was 24 when he died. He left behind parents and a sister. He was born in the Soviet Union and was a mechanic by profession.
For 11 years, he engaged in free-style, lightweight wrestling (up to 68 kg). He was ranked fourth in the Russian youth championship.
He immigrated with his family from the Soviet Union in 1969 and settled in Tel Aviv.
He proved himself an outstanding wrestler in the ranks of "Hapoel Tel Aviv" and the national team. He finished in 12th place in the world free-style championships held in 1971 in Bulgaria. He was ranked second in the international tournament held in 1972 in Greece and finished third in the competition in Bucharest.
Taking part in the Twentieth Olympic Games was the realization of a dream for him.
He was buried in Kiryat Shaul's cemetery.

Halfin, a member of the Israeli wrestling team at the 1972 Munich Olympics, competed in the lightweight division. After defeating his Hungarian opponent in his first match, he was eliminated from the competition in the second round by an Indian wrestler. On September 5, Halfin was one of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches killed by Arab terrorists after being taken hostage the previous day. He was only 28 years old.
An outstanding lightweight freestyle wrestler, Halfin competed for 11 years in the Soviet Union before emigrating to Israel (he finished fourth in the Soviet national youth championships). A member of the Israeli National team and Hapoel Tel Aviv, he also finished 12th at the World Championships.
